What Can We Find This Year At Myrtle Beach, South Carolina? Print E-mail

myrtle
Myrtle Beach is proud of its white-sand beaches which stretch for an extensive 60 miles from end to end. The clean and clear waters of Myrtle Beach are so inviting that you will find it hard to resist indulging in fun and thrilling water sports during your visit. As there are both freshwater and saltwater fishing spots in Myrtle Beach, you can test your skills as a freshwater and/or saltwater angler during your stay.

2007 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo

Speaking of fishing, there is currently an ongoing fishing contest sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce dubbed the 2007 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo that will culminate on October 31, 2007. You can cast your line at the deep sea, inlet, surf and pier fishing spots designated by the rodeo organizers to get a chance at a great catch which may merit you shoulder patches, and decals, and perhaps even allow you to win prizes and giveaways worth $20,000 all in all. A $2000 Grand Prize awaits the best angler while the weighmaster (whose name is printed on the entry card of whoever wins the Grand Prize) stands to receive $200. But the Grand Prize winner must be present during the Awards Ceremony to be able to receive his $2000.

Enrolling Your child in the 2007 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo

If your children show promise as future winners at angling, perhaps you would be interested in signing them up for the 2007 Take A Kid Fishing Tournament (another event with backing from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.) Here, parents can spend time teaching and assisting their child in the sport of fishing so that they become immersed in fishing skills at an early age. The event is an offshoot of the ongoing 2007 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo, which is why the fishing spots that have been reserved for child anglers are confined to the Grand Strand piers which function as the Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo weighing stations.

Enrollment Details

If you are interested in enrolling your child in the Tournament, head straight for the following fishing piers of the South Carolina Grand Strand before the October 12, 2007 deadline:
The Pier at Garden City
Surfside Pier
Springmaid Beach Pier
Myrtle Beach State Park Pier
Second Avenue Pier
Apache Pier
Cherry Grove Pier.
The Take A Kid Fishing Tournament will commence on October 20, 2007. Only children who are accompanied by an adult (caregiver, parent or other relative) will be permitted to take part in this event. Bottom fishing is the sole fishing category the adult-child pair can take part in. Your child may use his own private fishing equipment. If you lack that, you may ask the tournament officials to assign fishing equipment for your use during the day.

Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers Association

If these two events seem interesting to die-hard fishing fans like yourself, you might also be interested in learning the basics in the art of fishing from the Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers Association. There will be two seminars, both to be held on October 19, 2007, which the public can attend free of charge.
