Trees Protect Seagrove Beach from Onslaught of Hurricanes Print E-mail

seagrove
North Florida, where Seagrove Beach can be found, is often hit by terrible hurricanes which bring strong winds and plenty of rain which often wreak havoc on human populations. Fortunately for Seagrove Beach, it has plenty of sturdy and graceful oak, holly, hickory, magnolia, and pine trees that provide a natural windbreak to protect the Seagrove Beach community from the onslaught of the hurricanes. Hence, the beach which used to be known as Russ's Hammock was renamed Seagrove Beach after the grove of trees that provide such a tremendous benefit.

Tourists and the Development of Seagrove Beach

In the past, it was a bit tedious and tiring to look for and get to Seagrove Beach since it proved to be a rather out-of-the-way location for tourists to visit. Not any more the heightened demand for tourism services at Seagrove Beach has helped spur development of condominiums, homes, eating places and retail outlets which all serve to meet the various needs of visitors and full-time residents alike.

Beach Cottages

Families who have made it a tradition to keep returning every year to Seagrove Beach may tell you stories of the time when their parents and grandparents used to rent beach cottages during the 1940s and 1950s where they would stay for the duration of their vacation. Many of these aging beach cottages have been spruced up and refurbished, with scrub trees and plants providing a splash of greenery and much-welcome shade from the hot sun.

Hotels, Inns and Resorts

Other lodging places that you might want to patronize are bed-and-breakfast inns such as the Sugar Beach inn, and the WaterColor Inn and Resort. The nice part about Sugar Beach Inn, for example, is its proximity to the classic beach resort named Seaside. Seaside itself is a tourist attraction because of the many Victorian-style homes (perfect in detail down to the de riguer white picket fences that set boundaries for each property) that stand in the community. It is also okay to stay in hotels at Seagrove Beach, if that meets your comfort level. One of the top names in Seagrove Beach hotel accommodations is ResortQuest Palms. If you want to pamper the family with a meal out in a Seagrove Beach restaurant, rumor has it that Market Café, Yanni's Seagrove Grill, and Fish Out of Water will definitely fit the bill.

Seagrove Beach Activities

Aside from the mainstay activities of sandcastle-building and swimming (which were being done even back in the glory days of Seagrove Beach's popularity among Florida Panhandle destinations), you can now also take part in other Seagrove Beach activities such as hunting for antiques and examples of Seagrove Beach art at nearby antique dealers and art galleries; kayaking, and canoeing, within the waters of Seagrove Beach itself.

Moving to Seagrove Beach

Some people might like Seagrove Beach so much that they would like to relocate altogether to the area. If so, you may choose from an array of Seagrove Beach properties such as condominium units, family-type homes, and pre-existing beach properties. If you prefer to purchase a lot so you can build your own house from scratch, that is also possible.
